staffIt really is so hard to get good help these days. I've heard so many people say that and yet it never really sank in. I advertised for bar staff on www.seek.com and got a dozen replies. I've met some of them and stored a few names for later.
I needed above all, a good crew-chief. Someone I could trust to close the bar for me when I can't be there. I asked my friends to think of people they might want to recommend. My mate Ryan gave me the name of a barmaid he'd employed whom he said might be really good. I interviewed her and set up a trial day. She turned up, did heaps of work and was enthusiastic and bright. She had the right personality and seemed to be very keen. I offered her the position of bar manager and made her an offer of $23 p/h.
It's been a week now and I haven't had a reply to any of my txts, calls or e-mails. It seems she just changed her mind and can't be bothered to let me know. What the hell is with that? She's 25 not 14.
I guess it's true what they say . . . about good help being hard to find.
